Tummy time

Sevyn has been spending small amounts of time on her tummy.  She doesn't seem to mind it too much, as long as I am on the ground playing with her.

If you look close in the pics you might even notice that Sevyn's hair has a little tinge of red to it, wonder if it is going to turn red or if she will just have highlights of the color . . . we'll see!

Sevyn's 2-Week Doctor Appointment

Sevyn had her 2-week doctor appointment on Thursday and everything went well.

They weighed her at she is now 6 pounds, 10 ounces and 20.5 inches long.
The doctor checked her out and said that everything is going perfectly well, and to come back for her two month check-up.

Sevyn was pretty annoyed throughout the entire check-up.  She screamed almost the whole time because she was asleep and they made me take all her clothes off.  It was pretty funny because the nurse quickly identified that she "has a temper." (Guess she takes after her mom!)  Ha!  Wonder if her hair is going to turn red too?  It's usually a classic sign.

One Week Check-Up

Today we had our one week check up at the pediatrician's office.  Sevyn is doing GREAT!  Our doctor, Dr. McCoy checked her out and said she was doing well.

She weighs 6.6 pounds, which is up from the 6.3 she left the hospital with (birth weight was 6.12) so he was happy to see she was gaining weight.  Her coloring was good (was a little jaundice starting out, but that is steadily increasing.

He was quite shocked when we told him that she loves her sleep and that she likes to sleep through the night (6-8 hours a night at a time!)  But he said as long as she is eating and gaining weight then she is perfectly fine, lets not undo what we would normally be striving for!  Woo hoo.  Love that answer.

Anyways, she is a happy, healthy little girl and we are so blessed.

More pics of her coming . . . tonight!

Last Two Nights

On Monday night we were invited to a Fajita dinner at a friends house, and we were eager to go since I have been cooped up in a hospital and house all week.  Anyways, Sevyn slept the entire time, I even got her out of the car seat and she wouldn't wake.

We got home about 9:30pm and she woke up at about 10:30pm, and decided she wouldn't go back to sleep til 3am.  She didn't cry, didn't scream, just layed there wide awake cooing.  Eventually we got her to sleep and were able to get some zzz's ourself.

Yesterday I decided that we would definitely be keeping her awake for as long as possible until bedtime.  She woke up at 5:45pm and went to sleep at 8:45pm.  I feed her at 11pm, and then she slept until 7am!  Yes 8 hours of sleep.  Not sure if this is a good thing, bad thing or what . . . but she is eating a ton, getting full every time and  I guess, like her mom, loves her sleep.

I think I am going to go with last nights plan as often as possible keep her awake in the evening hours, then let her sleep at night.  I expect her to wake up a bit more often than what she did last night, but hopefully we will have something similar.

Finally a good night!

Yea, we finally had a good night at home.  Jim and I decided to go to bed early (around 9:30pm) because we just knew she would be up later in screaming fits, as she had been the two previous nights.

Sevyn isn't doing very well sleeping in her crib, so for right now she is laying in bed with us.  We have a king size bed so there is plenty of room, but certainly its not ideal and hopefully won't happen too much longer (although I like it because I don't have to get out of bed to feed her!)

Anyways, Sevyn woke up at midnight to feed.  Then went back to bed.
Up again at 3am.  Then back to bed.
Up again at 7:30am  (I know 4.5 hours of sleep!) Then back to bed.
Up again at 11am and now back to sleep again.

We had a good night, a normal newborn night.

Thanks to those of you who prayed a little extra for this.  I am so happy both Jim and I were able to get plenty of sleep (maybe even too much!)

This is Cool

Jim had this poster made to hang in Sevyn's room. It is a pictorial representation of the reasons for her name. I think it is one of the coolest things he could have done.

Explanation:
"S" - Ladybug: A standard ladybug has seven spots, and Sevyn's nickname.
"E" - Craig Biggio: His Jersey Number was 7, and one of Jim's favorite players.
"V" - There are several important 7's in baseball, including Nolan Ryan's number of no-hitters.
"Y" - Mickey Mantle: His Jersey Number was 7, and a baseball great
"N" - Seinfeld : Season 7, Episode 13 was called "The Seven," George tells a couple they should name their baby Seven. (This is where Jim got the idea for her name.)  Also one of Jim's favorite television shows of all time.

In the background is scripture that relates or emphasizes the number seven, such as:
Forgiving 70 times 7.
Joshua marching around Jericho 7 times, etc.
God created the world in 7 days
II Chronicles 7:14 - the reference has the number seven, and verse is an important one "If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves, pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."

Anyways, just thought I would share this with all of you.  I think from a graphics prospective it is one of the coolest pieces I have ever seen, and am so glad it was made for my daughter!

Our First Night

Well it was an interesting first night at home.  Sevyn had a great day, she rode home in the car really well, slept the whole time.  Layed in her crib, was smiling during her first diaper change on her changing table, and loved rocking in our glider.

However it all changed when it was time to get ready for bed.  We decided to give her her first sponge bath and that went pretty well, but shortly after she started crying.  It was about time for her to feed, so I fed her and she was quiet, but shortly after she began to scream again.

And it continued through the night.  Being a new mom, I was still trying to figure her out and thought that maybe she was cluster feeding and fed her again, and then again.  Each time she continued to feed but I realized that she was having lots of trouble burping.  Finally, at about 3am I realized she hadn't burped at all, and that she hadn't had a poopy diaper most of the day, so between gas and constipation we thought he had figured out the problem.

I sent Jim to the store to pick up some Milacon drops (which help relieve gas) and after giving those to her she started to burp and pass gas.  Then about an hour later she had a poopy diaper.  At about 4:30 in the morning she stopped screaming, and finally relaxed enough to get some sleep.  She wouldn't sleep in her crib or the pack n play, so I layed down on the couch with her and she slept on my chest for the next three hours.

At 7am she woke up to feed, and so we did.  She was a little fussy afterwards and I was pretty tired at this point, so I asked Jim to change her diaper and rock her.  He did, and she went to sleep.  The good news out of all this was that all three of us slept from 7:30am to 11:30am, which was GREAT!

Most of the day today she has slept and I think we have resumed back to our normal schedule.  Hopefully that was a one night thing, and tonight will be better - pray that it is.

Doctor Update

I had my final doctor's appointment today, and everything is going well.  We are still scheduled to induce next Tuesday the 13th, and are super excited about it, and getting anxious more and more each day.

Today at the doctor's office, they weighed me and officially document that I have gained 20 pounds on the pregnancy.  That seems like a lot to me, but fortunately as far as pregnancies go its not.  All along they expected me to gain 25-35 pounds total, and as you can see I am under that.  Woo Hoo!  Hopefully that means that I am all baby and will go back to normal size quickly . . . let's pray!

There hasn't been much change for me physically and I am progressing fine, but a bit slow.  My doctor has decided to help aide that progression the night before we are scheduled to induce.  I am going to go the hospital the night before, so they can do a small medical thing and then stay the night.  They will then administer the pitocin at 5am the next morning, and then its all about the baby from there.

If all works out right we should have a baby sometime in the late afternoon/early evening on Tuesday the 13th.

Just so you know, Jim will send out a text message/email to everyone to let them know the status of the baby once she is delivered.  I am sure pics will be included . . .so look forward to that!

I guess my next blog update will be after Sevyn is born (unless something drastically changes) so look for pics and stats on this sight on Tuesday!

In the meantime, pray that I finish my workload in time, and that Jim and I get plenty of rest these last few days, and as always pray that we will have a safe delivery and healthy baby!
